My professional and personal network spans the United States, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Canada, the UK, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

Twenty-five of these thirty-two cities are gateways. Twenty-one are working seaports, from Oakland and Baltimore to Manzanillo, Panama City at the canal, and Tokyo, Singapore, and Batam across the Pacific. Four more sit on the land side of the same system: Tijuana, El Centro, and El Paso on the border itself, and San Antonio, where that freight continues up the I-35 corridor.

On the California–Baja line I know both sides of the crossing, which is usually where the friction is.
